What Is Orthophoto Mapping

Orthophoto mapping is a top-down, scaled, north-up image of the entire site at a single point in time. We use aerial photogrammetry to produce the orthomosaic: hundreds or thousands of overlapping aerial photos are processed into a single, geometrically corrected image.

An orthomosaic is the foundation of construction site planning, stakeouts, and as-built verification. It can be imported into AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, QGIS, Trimble Business Center, and most survey and BIM platforms. The output is a single GeoTIFF file plus supporting metadata.

When to Use Orthophoto Mapping

Site planning: developers and design teams use orthomosaics to plan site work, lay out buildings, and identify site constraints before construction starts.

Stakeouts: surveyors and GCs use orthomosaics as the base layer for stakeouts, with the orthomosaic imported into the project coordinate system for accurate positioning.

As-built verification: surveyors and engineers use orthomosaics to verify as-built conditions against the design, identifying deviations and supporting RFIs.

Progress monitoring add-on: orthomosaics can be added to any weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly progress monitoring visit, producing a continuous record of the site at each cadence.
